The Radian Group – Year in Review

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

As we prepared for our ITA Roundtable on the topic of 2007 Compliance events, it occurred to me that The Radian Group has had some major achievements this year and it would be a great idea as my first blog entry – to share them with you.   As I should have been blogging all year, I will just catch everyone up and make a resolution to speak out more often (hard for me to do!) in 2008.   I wish you all a very safe and happy holiday season.    Sally – Managing Partner

January 07Lisa DuBrock joins the firm as a managing partner

Lisa has brought to our organization an expertise in Business Continuity, extensive background in IT auditing practices as well as a laugh that beats all laughs.   I used to be the loud one in our office, now we have a fun competition….maybe not so fun to the rest of the team though!!

February 07 -  Radian creates suite of IT Compliance Education

With a few instructional designers in house, we finally completed this project.  Our IT Compliance courseware covers Executive Overviews, How To: Series, Establishing Best Practices and of course, our partner offerings.  We deliver relevant and meaningful content directly related to IT Compliance issues and your business.

March 07 Radian develops Partner relationships in Atlanta

Much of March was spent in balmy Atlanta working with our friendly partner, CCG, to create strategies for offering in both the Northern and Southern markets.

April 07 -  Radian Management speak at numerous industry events

April was a busy month with Strategic partner events and developing relationships with companies that complement our own services.  We spoke at a number of industry associations as well as presented many webinars on IT Compliance issues.

May 07  - Radian to focus on Information Security and Business Continuity Standards

We kept the momentum of partner events in May along with a decision to align both our IS and BC services with ISO standards.  ISO/IEC:  27001:200 5 for Information Security and the yet to be released British Standard 25999.

June 07 -  Radian Internal Knowledge Sharing and Client Deliverables

With Vacations abounding,  June was spent working on existing client deliverables and internal education to ensure our expertise remains at expert levels.

July 07 -  Radian refreshes Education

As Compliance is every changing, so is our education content.  We refreshed some of our courses to reflect changes to regulations and standards.  We held a number of public  classes in Business Continuity Planning with excellent feedback.

August 07 -  Radian establishes a partnering relationship with BSI Management Systems

The Radian Compliance team acquired its own education in the ISO 27001 Standard and worked together to enhance our existing Information Security Practice.  We had numerous meetings with BSI to develop a strategic partnership.

September 07  Radian team engaged with many client projects

Our hard work is paying off with a numerous new accounts and projects that allow us to deliver our expertise and guide the clients with Compliance issues.  We also continued to promote our education for ISMS.

October 07Radian named an Associate Consultant Partner with BSI Management Systems for Business Continuity Management  Systems and participates at the World Launch in NY

What an exhilarating and exhausting month this was.  Lisa and I were on the fast track in NY as Lisa was a panelist while BSI Global launched the new BS 25999 standard in Tokyo, London and NY.

November 07 Radian achieves CPE accreditation with the National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA)

Keeping the exhilaration going, a wonderful achievement both professionally and personally.  My passion for education is shared within this organization and to be recognized by the NASBA for our commitment to excellence is a wonderful achievement.  This allows us to issue CPE credits for most of our “group – live” courses.

December 07Radian ready’s for larger client projects

Working in joint effort with other expert organizations, we have secured a number of new and larger projects as a team effort through hard work and our commitment to do what we do best .  Our team aligns once more to prove it can support the IT Compliance issues of our clients through education, guidance and expert solutions.

Project Management Standard Under Development

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

(ANSI: New York) — The International Organization for Standardization today announced that the development process has begun on ISO 21500, a new international standard for project management.

The first meeting of the project committee, ISO PC 236—“Project management,” drew fifty delegates to London to begin work on the document. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) holds the secretariat for PC 236, and the committee is chaired by Dr. Jim Gordon of the United Kingdom.

According to Gordon, initial phases of the work are expected to be completed in 2010. PC 236’s three working groups will address terminology, processes, and informative guidance.

Building on existing standards, ISO 21500 is intended to provide generic guidance, explaining the core practices and principles of project management. The standard will apply to organizations of all sizes and from all industry sectors, and will be useful for newcomers and experienced project management practitioners.

If IT Isn’t Aligned with the Business By Now, CIOs Should Quit or Be Fired

Posted by: Thomas Wailgum in Rants  on CIO.com

I’ve been listening to CIOs, reading about CIOs and hearing their problems for almost 12 years now, and to be perfectly candid, I am sick and tired of having to listen to CIOs’ alignment struggles: The seemingly insurmountable challenge of aligning their IT department’s mission and priorities with their business’s mission and priorities.

This so-called predicament has been on our radar screen for decades. We’ve written ad nauseam about alignment challenges in the past. Here’s one article that makes the case for The ROI of alignment. Another where we question why alignment was so difficult. Another where we offer a formula for alignment. And still another where our in-house coach instructs CIOs to avoid the "managing expectations" moniker when addressing alignment. There’s a lot more. Trust me.

In addition, my e-mail inbox receives a steady stream of survey results that detail the cumulative admonitions from CIOs regarding their alignment failings.
