    How Prepared is Your Business Continuity Plan for a Pandemic Situation?

    It is certainly all over the news, and many companies are now beginning to realize that the risks to their organizations from the potential swine flu pandemic are becoming more a question now of “when” or “how much of an impact”  rather than ” if”  it will happen.  A review  of all current business continuity plans and how those plans can be affected by a swine flu pandemic is highly recommended.

    Security Metrics: Getting to the Correct Measurements

    M.E. Kabay, PhD, CISSP-ISSMP has written an article in Network World that summarizes some of the more important research that has been done for security metrics.  In trying to address the question of what should be measured to better understand and manage security issues, Mr. Kabay cites some useful research papers to assist each of us tasked with the responsibility to place controls around security issues affecting business continuity planning, information security or other areas of response to regulatory requirements and compliance management.

    Putting the appropriate security control measurements in place within an organization remains an ongoing process requiring periodic review, evaluation and improvement by managment.

    Stop Spending Time on Low Value Business Continuity Management Activities

    In a recent article by Nathaniel Forbes written for ZBNet Asia, Mr. Forbes suggested several ideas to address the pressure that Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and the subsequent Business Continuity Management (BCM) activities are getting during these current tough economic times.  His recommendations for removing low value BMC activities — rather than simply cutting all BCM and BCP activities –  are helpful suggestions that each of us may utilize if and when our organizations are in similar situations.
